What size of Marquee?
Usually the first question we are asked.
Straight forward enough you may think. Allow me to explain…
There are several crucial elements to consider and we always recommend a site visit to enable us to best advise a size and bespoke job specification fit for your requirements.
Location
Where would you like to put the marquee?
“I fought the lawn and the lawn won”
-
- Have you an idea of where you would like to put the marquee? How big is this space? Whether it’s privately owned or in the grounds of another venue there’s a marquee to suit.
Are there access issues? Low hanging branches, narrow entrances? Our team require access by vans, trailers, large vehicles and lorries? Marquees for weddings and large functions often require a 40’ lorry to bring all the kit to location with our all important Moffet Mounty. - Are there any obstacles? They’re often not enough to stop us we’ve built over water fountains and ponds, incorporated garden borders and water features, outdoor steps, walkways and large trees. These features are always to be considered because you may need to increase or reduce the size of the marquee in order to work around obstacles.
- What is the state of the ground it’s going on? Some leveling may be required to provide a stable and accessible surface for your guests. We can provide a small amount of build up to level the interior floor of your marquee, but this is always assessed at a site survey meeting.

“you’re not on the guest list…”
-
- Check with your venue if you need to supply some security for your event especially if this is in a public area.
“We have the pleasure of requesting the company of…”
-
- How many people are you hosting?
- Sizes change depending on the number of guests you need to accommodate. It also depends of your event type, i.e. conference seating, dining and dancing, dining only or standing reception. Are you having staging, a bar area, buffet style service etc…?
Will your guest numbers fluctuate throughout the duration of your event? Do you require a lounge area or more intimate areas of your marquee sectioned off away from the bar of dance floor?
“Got a secret, can you keep it?”
-
- Catering areas are usually required for weddings, suppers and gala dining events. Depending on the number of guests you are providing for we can recommend a space suitable for your caterer to utilise.
- Do your guest speakers require a green room type space for your exhibition or conference? Or just somewhere to prepare away from the main area.
Cloakrooms can be useful at these large corporate events for guests to store bags, coats or bulky items.
“…murder on the dance floor…” (well, let’s hope not)
-
- A sturdy surface for your guests is essential. We can install a level wooden floor which will give you a great base for your marquee. A site visit allows us to survey your area and ascertain any build up requirements and note differing floor heights in places etc.
- Our wooden dance floor often compliments the traditional rustic type theme or maybe you would prefer our quirky black and white dance floor or perhaps the timeless white dance floor covering.
- We offer a variety of floor coverings to suit a variety of different events including plain wooden flooring, a selection of different coloured carpets from our stock for use over the wooden flooring, AstroTurf for balconies/verandas and vinyl.
“Every Marquee can have an ‘ivory’ lining…”
-
- Flat or ruffled to enhance your marquee finish and complement any theme you may have chosen.
“Baby it’s cold outside”
-
- Marquees may be used all year round with one of our heating options depending on the size of your marquee, don’t allow our notorious weather to deter you from enjoying your marquee experience!
“let there be light”
-
- Depending on the event and atmosphere you wish to create, lighting can be a crucial element. We offer a variety of options from festoon lighting to colour changing uplighters to plain fluorescent strip lighting and power-cans.
“I’ve got the power…”
-
- If there are no electrical sources near by talk to us about hiring one of our silenced event generators. Catering teams often request a reliable power source to ensure guests don’t go hungry!
- A water supply may also be required by your caterer.
“I’m on a roll”
-
- Depending on the number of guests you may be able to use facilities already based at your location, if not we can supply trailer toilets or luxury moduvac loos to fulfill your needs. It is important to consider the number of guests at your function in relation to the number of toilets you will be providing.
“One for the girls”
-
- Another great idea is creating a hidden annex with a dressing room type feel which contains the moduvac units and some lounge furniture for fascinator realignment, outfit comparisons, reapplication of lipstick and of course somewhere to store those all-important baskets of flip flops etc #ifyouknowyouknow
“What did one couch say to the couch across the room? You’re SOFA away…”
